The Horizon Europe-funded project CO2SITE (CO₂ Storage Investment Atlas for Europe) officially started on 1 June 2026, with partners gathering in late June for the kick-off meeting hosted by TNO, the Geological Survey of the Netherlands.

Over the next three years, CO2SITE will develop an open-access digital atlas of potential CO₂ storage sites across Europe, supporting the deployment of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). The project will integrate geological, technical, economic, and regulatory information to help assess storage potential, risks, and investment opportunities, providing valuable support to researchers, policymakers, industry, and investors.

EuroGeoSurveys is a partner in the project alongside four of our Members (TNO, IGME-CSIC, BRGM and GEUS). We also contribute through the expertise and geological data of 12 additional EGS Members participating as Affiliated Entities (AGS, GSFBH, HGI-CGS, HSGME, SZTFH, ISOR, LVGMC, LGT, PGI-NRI, SGUDS, GeoZS and SGU), helping to strengthen the knowledge base needed to accelerate Europe’s industrial decarbonisation and climate objectives.
