The European International Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Resource Management (ICE-SRM EU), a EuroGeoSurveys initiative operated by the Geological Survey of Slovenia, has been officially launched, marking a significant milestone in the Geological Service for Europe project (GSEU) and a major step forward in supporting Europe’s sustainable and secure supply of natural resources.

The launch event took place in Nova Gorica–Gorizia, the borderless 2025 European Capital of Culture, symbolising the cross-border collaboration and global outlook of the Centre. With opening remarks by Samo Turel, Mayor of the Municipality of Nova Gorica, and speakers from the Geological Survey of Slovenia, UNECE, the European Commission’s DG GROW, and the Slovenian government, the event highlighted the strategic importance of ICE-SRM EU in addressing resource challenges both in Europe and globally.
