On the 3rd and 4th of November, the 2022 EU-Latin America Convention on Raw Material took place in Santiago, Chile. The Convention brought together the mineral raw materials value chain community, including policymakers, industry, private sector, academia and innovation actors, from the EU and Latin America, under the overarching theme: Mineral Raw Materials for the Clean Energy Transition.

Key statements from the Minister of Mining in Chile, Mrs Marcela Hernando Perez were made, such as “The global challenges that we are facing require a quick reaction from the governments in collaboration with the industry to work together for the urgency to strengthen the resilience and sustainability of raw materials supply”.

The Convention was organised as a hybrid event with more than 150 participants in person and a similar number of participants online. The two-day event started with a high-level political session with representatives from seven Latin American countries and the European Commission. This session was followed by different panels addressing a variety of topics relevant to fostering collaboration along mineral supply chains between the EU and Latin America.
