Virtual Course: Mining Environmental Liabilities and Secondary Raw Materials

The Association of Iberoamerican Geological and Mining Surveys (ASGMI) is organising an online course named ‘Mining Environmental Liabilities and Secondary Raw Materials’ in the context of the Start Project from 25 September to 3 October 2024. The course will be conducted in English via the Zoom platform in 2-hour sessions, totaling 10 hours. The speakers are experts from various international institutions.

The objective of the course is to provide participants with an in-depth understanding of mining processes, and their environmental and social impacts, and to equip attendants with the necessary tools for the identification, assessment, and remediation of mining environmental liabilities.

It will be particularly interesting for postgraduate students in fields such as geology, mining engineering, or environmental engineering.

The topics can be divided into five major areas:

1. Fundamentals of Mining Environmental Liabilities
2. Identification of Environmental Impacts for Goods and People
3. Remediation of Environmental Liabilities
4. Reuse of Secondary Raw Materials
5. Environmental Management and Corporate Social Responsibility
